Numerical methods in giant planet formation

Giant planets are the main shapers of the planetary system architectures. Their large masses and their fast formation timeĀscales dominate the dynamics among nascent planets and small bodies during the formation of a planetary system. The diversity in the physical and dynamical properties of giant planets invokes multiple formation mechanisms to be explored. Detailed studies in the formation of giant planets have been done for some decades. In this talk we will briefly review the numerical methods developed to investigate the formation of giant planets in the classical core accretion mechanism, and we will discuss some open questions in this field.
